From CFCC to Miami to the Pentagon!

This letter comes from Joanna Joy a CFCC alumni and gradute of the Interior Design program class of 2002.

Hi Cindy,

Remember me? I graduated from your program in 2002. I was at work discussing all of the great memories of design school ;) when I realized that I really did receive a great education. I just wanted to thank you for that. I have had great success and a wonderful career thus far. Shortly after graduating, I moved to Miami and got a job with Poliform in the Miami Design District. Now, I am in Washington, DC and I work for a huge design/build company who is renovating the Pentagon. I am on the design team as a project manager. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that your artistic talent and persistent demand for perfection really helped me get to where I am now. 5 years ago, I would have never dreamed of a job like this. So, thank you.

Take care,

Joanna Joy

Chrissy Rogers

Wilmington native, Chrissy Rogers, allied member of ASID, has joined the interior design firm McKenzie Baker Interiors as an associate designer. Since graduating from NC State’s School of Design in 1999, Ms. Rogers has worked in the upholstered furniture market in High Point, graduated from Cape Fear Community College’s interior design program, and bought and renovated several historic homes in Wilmington. Chrissy is also pursuing her general contractor’s license, to provide a more comprehensive and full service to clients engaging in extensive renovations.

Chrissy Rogers won an ASID Merit Award for her historic renovation of a downtown Wilmington residence. The home had been condemed by the city, requiring major construction and restoration efforts throughout. Original fixtures and details were salvaged, recreated or incorporated at every opportunity. What had been a ruined duplex, became a beautiful three floor residence. The home was a favorite among those on a Christmas tour and won Renovation of the Year by the Historic Wilmington Foundation.

Jessie Jeffries

Jessie Jeffries, winner of the distinguished Otto Zenke award, has joined the staff of McKenzie Baker Interiors.  A 2008 graduate of the Cape Fear Community College Department of Interior Design, Mrs. Jeffries served as an intern with the firm for two consecutive semesters.  In April, she took first place in the Otto Zenke Interior Design Competition which was held as part of the American Society of Interior Design Carolinas Chapter Annual Conference in Myrtle Beach.  Mrs. Jeffries’ winning design, a combined residential and commercial unit, competed against students throughout the Carolinas.  Upon graduation, she joined McKenzie Baker as an associate designer.

In acknowledgement of both Mrs. Jeffries and Chrissy Rogers, another associate designer with the firm who interned while earning her degree at CFCC, Kathy McKenzie and Patti Baker, the firm’s principals, have established a scholarship in CFCC’s Department of Interior Design.  “We applaud the interiors program at Cape Fear Community College and are delighted to support their continued good work,” said Ms. McKenzie.  Ms. Rogers joined McKenzie Baker in 2006.  The annual scholarship of $1,000 will support one student’s tuition and expenses each school year, or over two semesters.  The scholarship will automatically renew each school year.
