Mission Statement
To provide the best technical education to all CFCC students through theory and hands on application of various and current applied technologies utilized in the industry.
Message from the Engineering Technology Department Chair
In today’s global marketplace the competition among producers and service providers is fierce. Only those organizations who posses technical “know how” and who can adapt to change will survive. Employers need people who can critically think and contribute to the bottom line on a consistent basis. As our workforce begins to retire at a faster than average rate, employers are scrambling to replace this most valuable resource. In addition, with share holder pressure on stock prices, corporate downsizing has no limits. Workers with insufficient or out dated skills are no longer value added and are often terminated with little to no severance packages. What impact will this have on our economy? There will be both short and long term negative impact.
Short term, the demand for potential employees who possess technical job skills will dramatically increase. This demand will especially be in fields such as; Computers, Science and Math. In the long term, if there are not enough skilled local workers, then those workers who are in demand will be imported. Also, the work itself may be exported if this balance is not in some type of equilibrium.
At CFCC we provide many technical degrees and certificates that lead to rewarding careers for graduates. In addition, these earned degrees and certificates can be the foundation to further students’ educational goals. We understand what industry needs and provide the type of education that get graduates jobs. Quite often, graduates will have desireable and good paying jobs before they graduate.
We stay connected with industry, government leaders and fellow educators in an attempt to keep up with current trends and requirements for our graduates.
The Engineering Technology Department can deliver these graduates because they offer current technology, one on one instruction and have caring faculty with practical industry experience. Beyond the theory and application, the faculty teaches critical thinking as part of the College’s organization wide effort to the Quality Enhancement Plan. Most all faculty posses many years of experience and are willing to go the extra mile for students in order to see them succeed.
I look forward to these challenges and believe North Carolina is primed for rapid growth in Alternative Energy, Technical Manufacturing and the Service Industry. Our job at CFCC will be to identify these trends, obtain resources and provide education & training requirements to meet these community and industry needs. We can meet this challenge.
