NCADE Awards

  • Outstanding Developmental Educator of the Year ($300 cash award and plaque): This award recognizes the contributions of a person who has helped students achieve their desired goals. The person recognized shows a lifetime of service to students through professional excellence and personal commitment. Evidence of achievement would be clear from student letters, letters from colleagues, and other documentation following the guidelines for the NADE service award.
  • Outstanding Developmental Education Program (plaque for program): This award recognizes the excellence of a Developmental or Learning Center program. The program recognized demonstrates excellence through anecdotal records and letters from students, faculty, and administrators as well as by statistical outcome measures. Documentation should follow the guidelines for the NADE John Champaigne award.
  • Outstanding Alumnus of a Program ($100 honorarium for speaking at the annual NCADE conference and plaque): This award recognizes a former student of a program associated with NCADE who is a source of pride for the program. Documentation should follow guidelines for the NADE Outstanding Alumnus of a Developmental Education Program.
  • Kellogg Institute Scholarship: NCADE is pleased to offer a partial scholarship for an NCADE member who plans to attend the Kellogg Institute. The applicant must have been a member of NCADE for two years and have had some leadership role in NCADE. Preference will be given to a person who has participated in at least two NCADE conferences and is a member of NADE.

NCADE “Shining Star Award”

The Cultural Diversity Committee

“Shining Star Award”

Purpose

 The purpose of the “Shining Star Award” is to acknowledge and recognize an individual, an institution, or an agency who has demonstrated a commitment to celebrating diversity.

Criteria

 The recipient of the “Shining Star Award” will document his/her commitment to diversity in one or more of the following ways: 

1. Devote time in class sessions and/or other public forums discussing the values of diversity as it relates to recognizing, understanding, and appreciating differences. 

2. Demonstrate in day-to-day activities and interactions with others an understanding of and a need for diversity. 

3. Identify and expose sexism, racism, and other forms of systematic oppression. 

4. Initiate or actively participate in activities at school or in the community that are focused on eliminating prejudice. 

5. Display an attitude of honesty, openness, and harmonious team building.

Application

Any current member of The North Carolina Association for Developmental Education (NCADE) may apply for or submit the name of another individual, institution, or agency to be considered for the Cultural Diversity Shining Star Award.  Simply write a letter documenting the reasons why the individual or agency should receive the award (please include events, accomplishments, dates, times, places and people impacted).  Address letter to:

NADE Awards & Associated Requirements

  • Outstanding Service to Developmental Studies
    • Letter of nomination, including identification of student populations the nominee served or is currently serving.
    • Letter of endorsement from state/regional organization or the equivalent.
    • Resume of the nominee with NADE membership number
    • Supporting material must include the following:
      • Letter(s) from student(s)
      • Letter(s) from administration, faculty, and/or colleagues
      • Letter(s) from developmental studies faculty member(s)
      • Letter(s) from colleagues outside the developmental area
      • Clippings or other information detailing the nominee’s impact upon developmental studies
  • John Champaigne Memorial Award for Outstanding Developmental Program
    • Letter of nomination
    • Letter of endorsement from state or regional developmental education association/organization or the equivalent
    • Letter(s) of support from:
      • Student(s)
      • Campus administrators and/or other members of the college community
      • Members of the developmental program
      • Faculty or Staff members outside the developmental area
    • Description of the program, including quantitative data and highlighting unique features, components, etc.
    • Copies of program brochures, flyers, other publicity materials
    • Copies of recent regional/national evaluations
    • Copies of regional/national program recognition awards
  • Outstanding Alumnus of Developmental Education Program
    • Letter of nomination
    • Letter of endorsement from a developmental practitioner. This letter must be from a developmental educator who taught the nominee and must include specific information about the developmental education courses, which the nominee completed.
    • Resume of nominee
    • Supporting material must include the following:
      • Information detailing the nominee’s activities and contributions to a profession and/or community
      • Letter(s) from community organizations regarding nominee’s contributions
      • Letter(s) from the nominee’s employer and/or instructors
