Purpose and Guidelines for Use of NCADE Listserv

PURPOSE

The NCADE Listserv is available for use by members of NCADE and guests selected by the Executive Board of NCADE.  All subscriptions and unsubscriptions to the Listserv will be by the Listserv Owner.  All members of NCADE will be subscribed to the Listserv, unless they request to not be subscribed.

 
The Listserv is a quick and easy way for members to communicate with all others on the Listserv by sending an email to the Listserv.  (See below for more information about posting messages.)  Keep in mind that all messages posted on the Listserv will go to all members of the Listserv (about 300 persons).  It is designed as a communication channel for information of importance to NCADE members.

GUIDELINES

 

The purpose of this Association [NCADE] shall be to enhance post-secondary, Developmental Education in North Carolina.   This purpose will be fostered by

 

1)       Promoting acceptance and valuing of Developmental Education.

2)       Promoting and encouraging opportunities for the professional growth and development of the members of the Association.

3)       Advancing high standards of professional conduct within the field of Developmental Education.

4)       Providing a communications network for the discussion of mutual concerns of members of the Association.

5)       Encouraging the use and dissemination of research, evaluation, programming, and training efforts in the field of Developmental Education.

6)       Collaborating with other professionals and organizations with similar goals.

7)       Providing professional conferences.

 

In keeping with the Purpose of NCADE and the professionalism of developmental educators, the following guidelines for the use of the NCADE listserv are to be followed when using the listserv.

 

The listserv is to be used for matters pertaining to teaching, tutoring, counseling, administration, professional development, communication, and other activities related to Developmental Education issues such as:

1.     Course content

2.     Textbooks

3.     Teaching strategies

4.     Good ideas for classroom

5.     Full-time positions in NCCCS - announcements only, not recruitment. Please include link to college announcement.

 

Keep in mind the following when using the listserv:

1.    Messages should be short - the listserv will not accept message longer than 4000 characters.

2.    Do not use attachments - the listserv does not handle attachments very well. Provide link to long message posted on your server.

3.    No political announcements - whether inside or outside of NCADE.

4.    No commercial announcements.

 

Brief Instructions for Use of NCADE Listserv

 

To post a message to the listserv, email your message to the NCADE listserv at ncade@list.nccommunitycolleges.edu. NOTE: You must send your message from the email address that you used to subscribe to the listserv. These guidelines may be found at http://cfcc.edu/ncade/listservguidelines.htm. REMEMBER: A “Reply” to the listserv sends the message to ALL members of the listserv. For more information relative to replying to the listserv, see the message in the Announcement section on the NCADE website or go directly to http://cfcc.edu/ncade/Replyingonlistserv.htm. 

 

Some messages posted to the Listserv may get “Bounced” back. As the Listserv Owner, I receive a message indicating the nature of the difficulty, such as “BOUNCE ncade@list.nccommunitycolleges.edu :  Non-member submission from….” Also, I receive a “Bounce” whenever a listserv email is too long (> 4,000 characters).

 

FREE! To subscribe to or unsubscribe from the NCADE Listserv, send an email to that effect, including the email address to be deleted from the listserv, to Claude Moore at cmoore@cfcc.edu. 

 

NOTE:  When I receive a “Bounce,” I reply to the sender and make suggestions appropriate for the particular situation. Please do not use attachments. Rather, create a web page for the material and place a link to that web page in your listserv message. Alternatively, you may send the document to me to be posted on the website and place a notice on the listserv.

 

Personal message: As a member of a listserv from many organizations, I receive numerous messages that are not of interest to me. However,  I remain on the listserv to receive those messages that are relevant. Please be courteous and brief in composing your messages and use the listserv to promote the Purpose of NCADE.
