LRC Users:

All CFCC faculty, staff, and students may use the LRC's resources and borrow materials. Adults age 18 or older and living in New Hanover or Pender counties may also use the LRC and borrow materials.

Library Cards for the LRC:

A CFCC library card must be presented each time you wish to check out any LRC materials, including reserves. All CFCC students, faculty, and staff should have a CFCC I.D. made as soon as possible. Your CFCC I.D. becomes your library card when a library barcode is placed on the back. Obtain the barcode by applying at the Circulation Desk. You will be asked to complete a brief form, provide your CFCC I.D. number, and the name of a reference. Community patrons must be 18 years of age or older; they will also need to provide a picture I.D. and two documents verifying their current address and residency status in New Hanover or Pender Counties. A replacement fee of $1.00 will be charged if the card is lost and a new barcode is required.

Borrowing Procedures:

CFCC Faculty, Staff, Students, and Community patron’s checkout materials in person at the Circulation Desk using their Library Card. Distance Learning Students may use their assigned barcodes to checkout materials by calling the Circulation Desk. There is a limit on the number of items that may be checked out depending upon the type of material; ask about this limit at the Circulation Desk. Arrangements can be made through the Circulation Desk to mail items to Distance Learning Students. If you notice any damage to an item that you are planning to check out, please notify the Circulation Desk staff.

Loan Periods and Fines:

Since the prompt return of items is necessary if the Library is to give you and others good service, fines are imposed on late materials. Keeping the materials beyond the allotted time may mean that others cannot complete assignments. The chart below lists the checkout periods and overdue fines. All library materials checked out on your library card are your responsibility. If an item is lost or damaged while you have it checked out, you will be charged the replacement cost. For damaged library materials, check with a staff member to see if the item can be repaired for a lesser cost. If you have lost an item, ask at the Circulation Desk to see if it has been found and returned to the library. If you pay for a lost item and later find it, return with the item and the receipt to discuss the possibility of a refund. Refunds for lost materials payments will not be given after one year.

Patrons with overdue materials and/or unpaid fines and charges may not check out any additional library materials until their record has been cleared. Also, students with overdue books, fines, or lost/damaged charges may not register for the next semester, receive their grades/transcripts, or be allowed to graduate.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)-

If the CFCC Library does not own the book or journal article you need, we will request the item from another library. First check the CFCC Online Catalog for books and periodicals owned by our library. Articles from periodicals that are not available at CFCC may be available electronically. Please ask a Reference Librarian regarding this option before submitting an ILL request for a journal article. For journal articles not available, you will need to fill out a Journal ILL Request Form.

You may find books listed in our online catalog that are not owned by CFCC Library. These books are owned by one of the other libraries in our consortium and you may request the item directly via the computer (you will need your Library Barcode number). Allow at least 7-10 days for receipt of the book. If the book title does not display in our online catalog at any of the library locations, you will need to fill out a Book ILL Request Form. Please include as much information as possible on the form (Title, Author, ISBN, name of journal, issue and volume number, etc.) to facilitate the processing of your request. ILL request forms are also available at the Reference and Circulation desks.

If we request books or articles from another library outside of our consortium, it takes a minimum of 7-14 days to receive the requested item. Once an item is received, you will be notified by telephone or email. The lending library sets the length of time materials may be kept (generally two to four weeks) and whether or not the item can be renewed. Therefore, it is very important to be prompt in picking up and using all ILL materials.

Videos and other audiovisual materials are not available from other libraries through Interlibrary Loan. Interlibrary Loan services are available to all CFCC students, faculty, and staff. Community patrons can request ILL services at their public library.

Study/Preview Rooms-

The LRC has rooms in which you may study individually or with a small group. You may also view videotapes and DVDs, or listen to compact discs or audiocassettes in the preview room. The LRC staff is available to help you use audiovisual materials. The study/preview rooms are only available for use by CFCC students, faculty, and staff.

Faculty Reserves-

Items placed on Reserve by instructors for use by their students are shelved behind the Circulation Desk. They are shelved alphabetically by the instructor’s last name and then by course title and number. A Library Card barcode number is required to check these items out or to copy them. Distance Learning Students may request that items be mailed or faxed to them for a small fee to cover direct costs.
