The theme adopted by the

History Teaching Alliance this year is

“Historical Memory.”

Through a range of programs—walking tours, museum visits, and conversations—we will explore the ways in which various groups and societies have represented their pasts.  In particular, we will explore struggles over rival versions of the past, and debates over what is included and omitted from history textbooks, memorials, historic sites, etc.  We will examine what different groups have chosen to remember and forget, and how certain historical memories have become the dominant narrative.
