in a Home School
Many home schooled students enroll in CFCC classes as concurrent enrollment students.
Program Requirements
To enroll in this program, students must meet the following requirements:
You must be at least 16 years old.
You must be recommended by the official home school administrator who must also certify that you are enrolled in your high school classes at least half time (one-half of a full-time schedule) and are making progress towards graduation.
You must meet course prerequisites for any class you wish to take. Prerequisites for each course are listed in the course descriptions in the CFCC Catalog and Student Handbook.
Application Packet
You should submit the Gateway Application to the CFCC Counseling Office with the following documents:
Home school identification card that verifies your home school is registered with the State of North Carolina.
Official high school transcripts.
Official SAT or ACT test scores (if applicable).
CFCC Placement Tests
CFCC accepts SAT and ACT official test scores. Students who have not taken these tests or who do not meet the cutoff scores will need to take the Accuplacer. See the placement test advising guide for the cutoff scores. CFCC administers this test on a regular basis. See our online test schedule for the most current test schedule. There is no charge for the test; however, students may take
Tips for high school students taking the Accuplacer at CFCC:
Prepare for the test. See our Testing Services web page for information on preparing for the Accuplacer.
Arrive 20-30 minutes early. (The test is given on a first come/first served basis.)
Tell the proctor that you are a concurrent enrollment student. (If you have not yet submitted an application, you will need to provide your social security number because you will not yet have a CFCC ID number.)
Bring a photo ID to the test. The proctor will not allow you to take the exam without proper identification.
Do not rush through the exam. The Accuplacer is not a timed test, so take your time.
Take only the test sections you need. The exam consists of four sections:. Reading Comprehension, Grammar, Arithmetic, and Algebra. The best way to decide which tests you need to take is to review the classes you are interested in taking. For example, if you want to take classes that do not require a math placement exam, you are not required to take the math sections.
Costs
Students must pay CFCC activity, technology, parking/security and in some cases insurance fees.
Students must purchase their own textbooks.
Students may enroll in summer courses under this program if they are not scheduled to graduate from high school that summer; however, summer tuition is the responsibility of the student.
Registration Guidelines
Students may only register for the classes listed on the Gateway Registration Card
You should report to the special credit registration on Late Registration Day.
