Financial Aid Available at CFCC

Federal Pell Grant -- The foundation of federal student financial aid, Pell Grants are awarded only to undergraduate students (those who have not earned a bachelor's or graduate degree) who demonstrate financial need.  Funds are distributed to eligible students according to the annual Pell payment schedule developed by the U.S. Department of Education.

 

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) -- Supplemental Grants are awarded from the Federal Government to undergraduate students with exceptional financial need.  Funds are first distributed to Pell recipients who demonstrate exceptional need.  If funds remain, FSEOG is then distributed to students with the lowest expected family contribution who are not receiving Federal Pell Grants.

 

Federal Academic Competitiveness Grant (FACG) -- This grant is awarded to first-year students who have graduated from high school after January 1, 2006; and to second-year students who graduated from high school after January 1, 2005.  Additional eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship, Pell Grant recipient, and graduation from a rigorous high school program of study.  Funds are distributed to Pell recipients who meet the academic requirements of the program in amounts based on the recipient's grade level.

 

Federal Work-Study (FWS) -- These awards provide part-time employment opportunities for eligible students to earn money to meet college expenses.  As long as FWS funds last, they are distributed to eligible students who demonstrate need and who request FWS employment.

 

Federal Stafford Loan -- Student loans are borrowed money that must be repaid with interest. These loans are funded by private lenders and are guaranteed by the federal government. Students must be enrolled at least half-time (6 credit hours) to be eligible. Returning students must have earned 30 credit hours to be eligible to borrow second-year loan money.  A separate application is required.  Funds are distributed to eligible borrowers after the loan application is approved and processed by the lender and in accordance with annual and aggregate loan limits.

 

Federal PLUS Loan -- PLUS (Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students) loans are available to eligible parents of dependent students who are enrolled at least half-time (6 credit hours).  Parent loans are borrowed money (in the parent's name) that must be repaid with interest.  A separate application is required.  Funds are distributed to eligible borrowers after the loan application is approved and processed by the lender and in accordance with annual and aggregate loan limits.

 

North Carolina Student Incentive Grant (NCSIG) -- This state grant is awarded to NC residents enrolled as full-time students who demonstrate substantial financial need.  Applications (FAFSA) must be completed prior to March 15 to ensure consideration for grant.  This type of grant is first-come-first-serve.

 

North Carolina Community College Grant (NCCCG) -- This state grant provides funding to NC residents enrolled in a community college who demonstrate limited or no eligiblity for Federal Pell Grants.  Funds are distributed to students deemed eligible by the NC State Education Assistance Authority in amounts determined by the agency.

 

North Carolina Education Lottery Scholarship (NCELS) -- This state grant provides funding to North Carolina residents not eligible for Federal Pell Grant with expected family contributions of less than $5000.  Grant amounts will range from $100 - $2500 for the academic year.   Funds are distributed to students deemed eligible by the NC State Education Assistance Authority in amounts determined by the agency.

 

Education Access Rewards North Carolina Scholars Fund (EARN) --This state grant provides funding to NC residents classified as dependent for federal aid purposes enrolled full-time in college for the first time within 7 months of high school graduation or obtaining a GED.  Total family income cannot exceed 200% of the applicable federal poverty guideline.  The maximum grant is $4,000 per academic year. Funds are distributed to students deemed eligible by the NC State Education Assistance Authority in amounts determined by the agency.

 

Institutional Scholarships -- Scholarships are awarded on the basis of financial need, academic excellence, special talent, or any combination thereof.  A separate application is required.
