Distance Learning (DL) Course Approval Procedures

Beginning Spring 200= 7, faculty desiring to teach a course through distance learning (DL) must foll= ow the guidelines listed below and gain appropriate approval from his/her department chair, and their appropriate dean. Each proposed or existing cou= rse, if delivered by distance learning, shall be separately reviewed and approve= d by department chair, and dean.  T= he role of the Distance Learning Department is to provide support to the instructor and department chair, in order to help ensure that course standa= rds based upon SACS Best Practices for Electronically Delivered Programs= are met, and to provide instructor training.

We have identified C= ourse Guidelines and a DL Course Checklist based on SACS Best Practices and noted authorities within the field of DL to guide faculty in course development. Elements in = the Course Checklist include types of learning, goals, objectives; activities to achieve the objectives; appropriate technology to deliver instruction; structured interaction between faculty and students; opportunities for stud= ent to student interaction; and evaluation strategies.

DL Course Approval Procedures:

1.      An instructor interested in developing and/or teaching a DL course should discuss the feasibility of offering the course through DL with their department chair.

2.      The department chair approves= the course for development and obtains approval from the dean.

3.      Once the department chair and dean have approved the course for development the instructor is notified to start the course development.

4.      Upon approval, the instructor should contact the Distance Learning chair about developing the course and obtain the appropriate forms to use for course development. The Distance Le= arning chair will provide training and support throughout the development process.=

Forms required:

        &= nbsp;   DL Course Guidelines

        &= nbsp;   DL Course Checklist

&= nbsp;   Blackboard Course Website Template (downloaded into course site)

5.      Once the instructor finishes = the course development, he/she should ask the Distance Learning chair to review= the course.

6.      Once the course has been revi= ewed the instructor should provide their department chair with a copy of the Reviewer’s Course Readiness Checklist for final course approval. This approval verifies that the completed course meets CFCC Guidelines. Upon approval of the course the department chair may offer this course for enrollment during the next upcoming semester.

If you have questions concerning these procedure= s, please contact the Distance Learning Department chair - Dr. Larolyn Zylicz = lzylicz@c= fcc.edu for further information.

Thanks in advance fo= r being a part of the Distance Learning program at CFCC.
