ACCESS TO BOOKS IN ALTERNATIVE FORMATS
Textbooks may be available in alternative formats from the Reading for the Blind and Dyslexic (RFBD), through the Disability Support Services office. A student who is eligible for this accommodation (learning disabled or visually impaired) should contact Bill Parker and register with Disability Support Services. If the textbook is available through RFBD, it will be ordered and made available in audio format for the student at the Learning Lab in the "L" building.
PROCEDURE FOR OBTAINING BOOKS ON TAPE OR CD
For use of CFCC's RFBD membership or other conversion resources, the student must request this service and provide Disability Support Services office with the printed textbook at least 60 days in advance of the upcoming semester. Within two weeks, the student will be notified if and when an alternative format version of their book is available.
Students may also want to consider obtaining an individual membership to RFBD so they can access books directly and listen to them in the convenience of their own home. With an individual membership, the student would pay an annual fee and purchase the text-reader equipment. Disability Support Services can assist students in completing the membership application.
