Narrative
Cape Fear Community College has a clearly defined Mission Statement specific to the institution. The mission statement is appropriate to a non-research institution of higher education in that it addresses vocational, technical, and pre-baccalaureate programs, literacy education, continuing education, support services for helping students succeed and the promotion and facilitation of economic and community development (CFCC Mission Statement). The mission statement is further supported by the Cape Fear Community College Vision Statement, which includes “Building a future-oriented world-class workforce and a community of lifelong learners in partnership with regional businesses and agencies” (CFCC Vision Statement). The college’s mission statement is also in keeping with the intent of the North Carolina Community College System’s Mission Statement (NCCCS Mission Statement) and is consistent with the statutory purpose given for the North Carolina Community College System in the General Statutes, Chapter 115D-1 (Statement of Purpose).
The Cape Fear Community College Mission Statement is published in a variety of places such as the College Catalog and Student Handbook, the College website, the President’s Annual Report, Faculty and Staff Handbook and Schedule of Classes making it accessible to the public, students, and employees. (CFCC Catalog and Student Handbook pg 2) (College Website) (President’s Annual Report pg 2) (CFCC Faculty and Staff Handbook) (Schedule of Classes pg 45)
The college’s mission statement is approved by the Board of Trustees and is periodically reviewed to ensure it remains current. The most recent revision to the Mission Statement was approved by the CFCC Board of Trustees during their November 19, 2003 meeting (Board Minutes pg 5).
